There Really is no Denying That Flipped Learning is an International Movement

Back in 2010 and 2011 as I was first learning about flipped teaching and learning, most of the discussion about it that I came across online came from U.S. based educators. As the years rolled by, the volume of dialogue from educators all across the world has grown until today, it is undeniably an international phenomenon.

There are so many indicators of this. Let’s explore a few …

News & Articles From all Over the World

There are constantly articles about flipped classroom adoption being published in countries all across the planet. Here are just a few examples.

Online Workshop Participation

I’ve been running the 4 Week Online Flipped Classroom Workshop several times a year for going on 5 years now, and I have had teachers from all across the world join us. While the majority of educators have been based in the U.S., I’ve also had teachers from:

  • Australia
  • Singapore
  • Spain
  • Austria
  • Puerto Rico
  • Russia
  • The U.K.
  • Mexico
  • Uganda
  • Italy

And that doesn’t include some of the international students in some of the first workshops (couldn’t locate my oldest lists).

International Conferences

Flipped Classroom pioneer Jon Bergmann has been the driving force behind the growing number of international conferences taking place in cities across the world, but he’s not the only one! Here’s a few recent or upcoming conferences outside of the US.

  • Flipcon UK took place earlier this year
  • FlipCon Spain took place earlier this year
  • FlipCon Gold Coast will take place in Australia in October, 2016 (following a very successful FlipCon Australia 2015 conference).
  • China! FlipCon Taipei also took place earlier this year
  • There are also a growing number of flipped classroom presentations happening at international education conferences all over the world

This ain’t no ‘bandwagon’ … it’s an instructional technique that makes too much sense to NOT be adopted at an increasing rate

The flipped classroom and all that it makes possible is not some “trend” that is going to come and go. Pundits have been saying that for years, but the adoption of the techniques, and the growth of tools and resources to support it, just keeps on growing. In fact, this “Global Flip Classroom Market 2016 Analysis and Forecast to 2020” predicts that global flip classrooms market will to grow at a CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) of 37.47% during the period 2016-2020.

So what are you waiting for? You’ve got flipped lessons to plan!

And no matter, where you live, if you haven’t started flipping, you might want to get on board for the 4 week online flipped classroom workshop that starts on July 3rd. Click here to learn more
